As the combination of the sexes, marriage embodies women’s values and achievement. This principle we met in Jane Austen’s works obviously. With one after another vivid and significant story, Jane Austen’s works show us values on marriage of those women who live in 18th century to reveal women’s authentic unfavorable situation of their days and to probe into women’s means of livelihood at that time, which is against to the characteristic of idealizing love in the traditional novels and provides with social meaning. Among which the most classic example is Jane Austen’s views on marriage in Northanger Abbey, which was her earlier novel, but was not published until after her death, in 1817,along with persuasion. Since the flexuosity of publication of this novel, readers felt more hard-earned with it; also,what we have read is the content after author’s modification again and again.
